Babysaurus

Yesterday I blogged that I bought some of the cutest fleece ever at Joann's, well, I didn't lie! Is this not the cutest ever??? This fleece is super soft. The stripes are bright and cheery, and it has adorable dinosaur appliques. I fell in love with it.

I used my edgerydoo and did a simple edging on it.

This will be donated to Marine Corps Kids.

Sale Glorious Sale!!!

Since we moved I've been paying to maintain two houses, and it's been a bit tight on my purse strings. I've been cutting down on spending, and have not been buying yarn and fleece. Fortunately, I moved with quite a stash, so it hasn't been hard to control myself.

Then today I got an e-mail from Joann's. It said "Fleece Sale". I couldn't help myself. I went at lunchtime and found the cutest Fleece Ever!!! I just went downstairs and cut and Edgerydoo'd and I'm about to start a new baby blanket that I plan to send to my little MCK Warrior baby (I made him the teddy bear one, but I think this one will be more Warrior-like).

I also got the cutest sailboat fleece and some great pink and blue baby prints. At Bargain Prices! Hubby says I should stock up now while the stocking is good!

Lumpy Baby Blanket

I finally finished my Aggie May Round Ripple. I love this pattern but it was my first time using it, and I think I used the wrong hook. I should have used a slightly smaller hook, and as a result, my blanket is lumpy. Luckily, my friends assure me that babies can be rather lumpy too, and that when wrapped around the baby, this blanket will be just fine.

I'm going to try again soon and try to get a nice flat blanket. Despite its faults, I think this blanket is pretty.

Happy Holidays

No matter what you believe, this time of year is packed with celebrations - both religious and secular. To me, saying "Happy Holidays" is a way to wish everyone joy and happiness in whatever they celebrate. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and/or New Years - "Happy Holidays" is a greeting of inclusion, not exclusion.

For all of you who celebrated Christmas today, I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and were able to spend it with the people that you love.

This evening we were invited to dinner with our new neighbor and her family. It was a delightful time with new friends, good food, adorable children and much laughter. Our families don't celebrate the same holidays, be we truly celebrated friendship and neighborliness together. I feel so fortunate to have friends with diverse beliefs and with open minds who can sit down and celebrate the things we share, rather than allow our differences to divide us.

As we approach the new year, my wish for everyone is for a new year of health, happiness and peace. I hope that we see an end to the war, a restored sense of patriotism and community, and a year in which we can cherish the things that bring us together as a nation while embracing the things that make us unique as individuals.

fleece blanket and hat

This is a fleece blanket that I edged and a little matching cap that I made for Marine Corps Kids.

I've been corresponding with an expecting mom who's little guy doesn't seem to want to wait till his Feb. due date. I'm expecting an e-mail any time now (I hope he waits till January though) that the little guy is out. Since I just mailed several boxes of donations to 29 Palms to arrive for Christmas, I have no "stock" for when this baby arrives. I wanted to make something soft and warm to have for this little warrior when he arrives. I hope he and his mommy like this set.

Doing the Doo

Since the big move, I haven't had a chance to get busy with my Edgerydoo! First I had to find the box with the templates and my fleece. Then I had to buy a new punching pad and get stuff set up. I'm not quite there, but I've been missing "the doo".

One of the Marine Corps Mom's who I've been corresponding with is going to give birth soon. Her little guy isn't quite due yet, but seems eager to say hi to his mom! I want to have a nice gift for him, so I found my fabric and am back to edging! It's fun! I'll post when I'm done - it's going to be very similar to something I've already made, but I have some soft and really cute fleece to make a blanket for this little boy.

Gonna go Round in Circles

Seems like I'm not blogging as many finished projects as I once did. Partly because I'm fighting a cold and haven't had the energy to crochet - which is pretty sad! I've been working on my first round ripple using Aggie May's amazing pattern.

I love this pattern!

Unfortunately, it looks like my hook size was wrong, so my ripple is a bit rippled. I decided early on not to frog it - perhaps I should have, but I've been adjusting my rounds to try and minimize the rippling as I move outward through the work. I also find that when I fold it - as it will be folded around a baby - the rippling really works itself out.

It's not perfect, but I think it's going to be pretty. Next time I'll make sure to use yarns of the same weight (my pink yarn is thinner than the cream and causing a bit of a challenge) and the correct size hook, and that should leave with me a nice flat finished blanket.

I have a ways to go until this one will be large enough, but I'm getting there.

Happy Birthday, Honey

Today is my hubby's birthday!

Now that we don't live in Florida, we have a need for things like hats and scarves! Hubby's new jacket it brown, so I made him this hat and scarf set to get him through the winter (I just hate seeing him out in the cold with his bald head!). He either really likes it, or is a great faker!

He chose the yarn, and I made up the patterns as I went. The hat is a fairly basic pattern. For the scarf, I used a mix of front loop and back loop only stitches to make the striping a bit more interesting.

Santa Baby

I made this little poncho as a Christmas gift for my husband's niece's daughter. I used Aggie May's great pattern, which works up quickly and easily.

I hope they like it.
